Ossie - Tarantula/Creepy Crawlies (2011)
Two great tunes by Ossie, coming out March 14th on Lightworks. The reason arachnid-based titles fit Ossie’s tunes is that his use of percussion/synths is so fidgety, flailing and yet gracefully light. Even on the more stripped back and moody Creepy Crawlies, with its pounding kick-drum/sub, there’s a feeling of rhythmic fluidity to the percussion which lightens it, and makes spider-like limb flailing a necessity. Also, when injecting flies with poison to be ingested at your leisure later on, the calming effect of ‘Tarantula’s sun-drenched dam-funk-y synths really helps you keep your fangs straight.
Reecha and Jon Rust, the ”people” behind Lightworks LDN (lol), are doing a monthly mix for Dummy mag. The February mix is available now, listen to hear that good ish from Funkineven, Martyn and Mike Slott and Motor City Drum Ensemble alongside ”Tarantula” its-very-self and udders.
